What happens during a Basti session?

For Kati Basti you lie face down on a massage table. A small ring of dough, or a reservoir of black gram paste, is built on the area to hold the oil. Warm medicated oil is poured in, chosen for your condition, and kept warm throughout. The oil usually stays for about 20 to 30 minutes, or as Preeti recommends, and the area around it may be massaged gently. Then the oil is removed and the skin wiped clean. For Netra Basti you lie on your back, and the ring is built around the eyes and filled with warm ghee.
